The cost of being a junior doctor has increased, research by the BMA shows, while over the same period, junior doctors’ basic salaries have increased by little more than 20%, and supplements paid for antisocial hours have fallen.
Commenting on the recent announcement (10/05/07) of a 2% pay award for armed forces doctors, Dr Brendan McKeating, Chair of the BMA’s Armed Forces Committee said:“I am saddened by the sub-inflationary pay settlement. It is an effective pay cut for military doctors. There is a serious shortfall in the numbers of armed forces doctors and cutting their pay will undoubtedly discourage new applicants who can earn higher salaries in the NHS"
