Ophthalmic Group Committee


Terms of reference
To consider matters arising out of ophthalmology service provision within the NHS in the community (primary care/ophthalmic medical practice) or the Hospital Eye Service (HES) (secondary care) or the Independent Sector Treatment Centres

To advise the Council and other BMA committees on ophthalmology, and to respond on behalf of the BMA to consultation documents from the Department of Health and other external bodies in ophthalmology

To negotiate the sight test fee and domiciliary visit fee for ophthalmic medical practitioners taking part in the NHS General Ophthalmic Services (GOS)

To provide advice to ophthalmologists on their contracts of employment or, in the case of ophthalmic medical practitioners, the GOS sight test fee

To consider the strategic direction for ophthalmology services in primary care and the HES.
