Medical professionalism is being discussed with increasing frequency against a background of change in the structure and environment of medicine in the United Kingdom.
The modern doctor must be able to practice effectively and efficiently in a constantly changing health environment. The relationship between patient and doctor is also changing as the public become increasingly better informed. Recent NHS reforms, increased patient expectations and new arrangements for medical education and training have reignited the debate surrounding the qualities required of doctors.
Based on the results of the BMA cohort study of 1995 graduates, this report examines the views and perceptions of junior doctors regarding professional values.
