About our film and video collection

The collection
The BMA Library has one of the largest collections of medical videos and DVDs in the UK, with about 3,000 titles. This collection forms the basis of a range of lending, information and research services that are available to all BMA members (NB loans are only available to members in the UK).
The BMA Library's film collection has now been moved to the Wellcome Trust. The BMA owns the rights only to the earliest films, which are known collectively as the RSM archive. We are unable to take footage enquiries or offer a VHS copy service for copyright-approved material.
Please see our factsheet on medical film and footage.
Most of the video collection is available for loan. We have a core collection of current videos, many of which are past winners in the BMA's film competition. Most subject areas are covered, such as physical examination, cardiology and general practice. Some of the videos are suitable for nurses, health educators, patients and the general public, although a larger part of the collection is targeted at medical students and doctors.
We can provide a title list of up-to-date programmes aimed at health professionals or one for patients/general public on request. We also hold an archive collection of about 1000 television programmes, recorded off-air since 1993. This collection is available for private or educational use. It is also possible to arrange video loans and reservations on the main library number (tel: 020 7383 6625).
